u/12 League 1

 Blackrock 2-6 St Vincents 1-2.

A return to form for Blackrock after recent defeats with 1-2 from David King and 1-1 by Luke Magee. Alan O Callaghan, Paddy Lynch and Paul Tobin contributed a point each. Kevin Foley was superb as full back.

u/12 League 2 

Carrigaline 5-5 Blackrock 4-3.

A good showing despite a depleted squad, Brian Walsh was on fire netting 3 goals. Dean Torpey, Conor Gannon and Cathal Walsh battled well at the back while Darragh Jones and Stephen Logan Lane were strong in midfield. Ben Mc Carthy and Graham O Callaghan also showed some fine skills.

Blackrock Gold 1-2 Nemo Rangers 5 - 12. 

The Rockies went out of the championship in this Semi-Final clash. Nemo were the better team on the night but the Gold team played some fine hurling and kept competing right to the final whistle, registering one point from a free by Naoise Crowley in the first half and a goal and point from Fiachre Kelleher in the second.

Blackrock Gold 2-4 Passage West 5-3. 

Points in the first half from Philip O Callaghan and Naoise Crowley, and a Goal and two points from Fiachre Kelleher in the second half were not enough to overcome a hungry and assured Passage West at Church Road. Despite the defeat all players gave their best, Daragh Jones, Brian Noonan, Seamus Hogan and Joshua O Shea put in great performances.

Blackrock Green 2-7 Na Piarsaigh 2-9. 

Blackrock narrowly missed out on progressing in the A Championship from this thrilling clash at Church Road. The sides were tied 1-3 to 0-6 at half time with the home team having been more impressive in play and unfortunate in the number of frees awarded against them, managing to keep abreast with less scoring chances. Both teams traded scores in the second half and the rockies were one point ahead approaching full time when Na Piarsaigh struck back with a pitch long solo run culminating in a goal to close the game with a 2 point advantage. All attendees agreed that both sides gave a masterful display of skill and determination and these players can be proud of their efforts whatever the outcome.  Under 11 League, 

Blackrock Golds 8 - 3 Valley Rovers 3 - 2.

Saturday 15th September;

The highlight here was the staggering score of 6 - 1 by young Alan O'Callaghan who was simply unstoppable for the Blackrock Golds. Blackrock Greens 3 - 7 Nemo Rangers 4 - 1. Alan Ring and David King were in top form for the Blackrock Greens in a result which was extremely hard fought against a very determined Nemo team.

July 2007

Under 11 League. 

Blackrock Gold 1 - 4 Inniscarra 1 - 2 

at Church Road on Monday 2nd July

Played in glorious evening sunshine at Church Road on Monday 2nd July, this was a highly entertaining and competitive game, with both defences on top. Paddy Lynch was in great form for the Rockies and finished with 1 - 1, while the energetic Keith Hogan and Joshua O'Shea worked extremely hard from start to finish. Inniscarra's netminder Stephen Horgan had a brilliant game and his long puckouts set up his midfielders. Thomas O'Connor and Cilian Geaney for Inniscarra are also two names to look out for in future.

June 2007

Under 11 League. 

Played at Church Road on Saturday 23rd June. 

Blackrock 1 - 4 Douglas 2 - 3.

This was a very entertaining match from two excellent sides. Douglas were leading 2 - 1 to 0 - 2 at half time following two well taken goals from Mark Dolan. The Rockies dominated the second half but found it hard to convert their chances from a tough Douglas defence. When Paddy Lynch scored a goal for the Rockies mid way through the half it allowed for a pulsating finish.

Alan O'Callaghan for the Rockies was outstanding and scored all four points. He was ably assisted by Luke Clarke, David Redmond and Ryan O'Mahony. Douglas had fine performances from Mark Sexton, John Cantwell and Daniel O'Sullivan. Referee Peter Fitzgerald had an easy time from two committed hurling teams.

Under 11 League 

played at Church Road on Saturday 13th June. 

Blackrock Green 0 -1 Douglas 1 -0

Both sides were very even with defences on top. A Paul Tobin point was the only score of tight first half. Jim Keating, Dean Torpey and Daniel Linehan were outstanding in this period. The second half mirrored the first with scores at a premium. A close in goal for Douglas gave them the points in the end despite the skills of Dan Lenihan and James Treacy who were excellent.

Under 11 City League,

played at Church Road on Sunday 10th June.

Blackrock 9 - 8 Bishopstown 4 - 10

This was a most enjoyable game of hurling played by two teams who had nothing else on their minds only scoring. With over 30 scores in the hour, it certainly kept the crowd entertained on a lovely summer's Sunday evening. 

The silken skills of Alan O'Callaghan, Fiacre Kelleher (2 - 5) and Paddy Lynch (who scored 5 - 1) for Blackrock were great to see at this level. Conor Gannon and Naoise Crowley also bagged a goal each. 

Bishopstown had fantastic performers in Alan O'Sullivan, Cian O'Connor, Michael O'Riordan, Andrew Sweeney and Brian O'Donovan. This was a game which will live in the memory due to the fine skill and stick work on display from both sides.

Under 11 City league 

Blackrock (Greens) 2 - 3 Passage 3 - 0. 

played at Church Road on Wednesday 23rd May

Passage fought back in the second half of this exciting game played at Church Road on Wednesday 23rd May. The Rockies had started well and a long distance goal from David King and another from Brian Walsh put them into an interval lead of 2 - 1 to no score. Passage managed to penetrate the Blackrock defence in the second half and a draw was a very fair result. Philip O'Callaghan, Kevin Foley and Oliver Meade were excellent for the Rockies. The Rocky Golds play Ballincollig at Church Road on Tuesday next at 6.45.

Under 11 Hurling League. 

Blackrock (Gold) 7 - 6 Carrigaline 2 - 2 

at Church Road on Saturday 19th

This match played in lovely sunshine at Church Road on Saturday 19th was very enjoyable and although the Rockies were always in command, the lads in blue and gold always fought hard and displayed some nice hurling skills. Paddy Lynch scored 3 - 4 for the Blackrock gold team and is improving with each game. Young Keith Hegarty and James Treacy also played great hurling while David Redmond and Alan O'Callaghan were resolute in defence.

For Carrigaline, Eoin O'Connor, the goalie made dozens of saves and will be a great keeper, while Brian Coakley and Kieran Cavanagh gave excellent displays.

Superleagues for 2007 (under 10/11)

This is normally run in April/May, however for 2007 it will be held after the Summer

Due to the regular Under 11 Leagues and Mick Cashman Cup games at present the under 10 and 11 Super Leagues will now take place on Saturday September 1st and Saturday September 8th in a blitz format.

Full Details will be announced well in advance of commencement

Under 11 league, 

played at Douglas Friday 11th May. 

Blackrock 4 - 4 Douglas 4 - 3 This was a very exciting match and resulted in the Rockies having their noses just in front by a single point at the final whistle. Philip O'Callaghan got two wonderful goals, while Luke McGee added a third for the Church Road outfit. Jim Kelly was a very capable full back for the Rockies while forward Dan Linehan was outstanding.

Blackrock 1 - 1 Glen Rovers 4 - 6. 

Blackrock's other under 11 team had no luck against Glen Rovers in this game played in the Glen venue on Saturday afternoon 12th May. Luke and Ryan O'Mahony were brilliant for the Rockies while James O'Donovan and Fiacre Kelleher also worked hard. Paddy Lynch contributed all Blackrock's scores.

The Mick Cashman Cup

Mick Cashman Cup Final replay. 

Blackrock 2 - 3 Eire Og 2 - 3 (after extra time) 

Church Road was thronged once more for the Mick Cashman Cup Final however as before Blackrock and Eire Og could not be seperated after extra time in this classic final. Both sides again produced some great hurling and it would have been a sporting travesty if there had to be loser after two hard matches and two periods of extra time.

It was agreed that the Cup would be shared and both teams were declared the joint winners of a competition which began last May and in which almost 40 games had been played under the auspices of a committee led by Jodi Crowley.

Eire Og got off to a flying start and were 1 - 1 to nil ahead before Blackrock settled down. Some poor shooting resulted in half a dozen wides despite their growing dominance. Dylan Desmond at full back for Eire Og left little past, while goalie Luke Lenihan put on a fine display for the Ovens outfit.

The Rockies goalie Jack Lenihan was confident and reliable throughout while the half back line of David Redmond, Seamus Hogan and Niall Fitzgerald took control. A goal mouth scramble involving a number of players resulted in Alan Ring forcing the ball over to the Eire Og goal line to leave just a single point between the sides approaching full time.

Alan O'Callaghan, certainly a contender for the man-of-the-match began to dominate matters and his long clearances set up many Blackrock attacks. He added a great point from midfield. Again Eire Og went two points up in extra time however David King added a point from a free to leave just a point between the sides.

Eire Og looked to have victory sealed when they scored a goal to put them ahead by four points with just minutes remaining. Daniel Meaney was unlucky when a brilliant goal effort was declared to have come back off the post. Alan O'Callaghan then scored a great goal from a Jack Lenihan clearance and then the brilliant David King levelled when he pointed from a free in the final minute. Thus did the Mick Cashman Cup conclude for the 2006 season in a state of unbelieveable excitement!!

The famous cup was presented by Tom and Jim Cashman to David Redmond (Blackrock) and John Mullins (Eire Og). There was a huge ovation from the massive crowd for both teams which had taken part in two of the most memorable Primary hurling matches seen at Church Road for many a day. Medals were presented to both teams along with the Rockies team which had also finished in third place in this competition.

Mick Cashman Cup Finals. 

These finals were played at Church Road in glorious sunshine on Sunday 24th September in front of a huge crowd. The Mick Cashman Cup Final itself between Blackrock and Eire Og ended in a draw 1 - 2 each. The two sides scored a point each in extra time and could not be seperated. It was then agreed to hold a replay. The Rockies team finished third having defeated Bishopstown by a single point in another thrilling contest. Cup Final.

Blackrock 1 - 3 Eire Og 1 - 3 

This was a tough thrilling encounter with both defences in great form and scores hard to come by. Eire Og were ahead by a goal to 2 points at half time, however a goal from Philip O'Callaghan put the Rockies ahead only for Eire Og to level with a free just before the final whistle. Extra time failed to separate the sides, with David King pointing a free for Blackrock late in this period to level the game once more.

The Rockies 1 - 2 Bishopstown 1 - 1. 

The Rockies finished third following their encounter with Bishopstown. Fiacre Kelleher scored an excellent goal and Paddy Lynch fired over the points to give the Rockies a one point win. The Rockies had earlier lost out in the semi-final to Eire Og 3 - 2 to 1 - 3.

Douglas Greens and Blacks emerged victorious in the Plate final following two good matches with the St.Finbarrs and the Barrs teams. There were some superb contests and great sportsmanship was displayed by all the young hurlers and coaches. Our thanks to everyone who took part and to the clubs for the excellent cooperation to ensure every hurler played in nine games. 

The dramatic improvement in the hurling skills of all the teams was evident to all.

Report from Rockies and Blackrock Teams Round 6/7 Matchs

The Rockies 1 - 2   Eire Og 3 - 4. 

played Thursday 15th June. 

On a beautiful sunny evening in the Bride valley, the scores were level at half time at 1-1 each. Luke Mc Gee had scored the goal for the Rockies, while Shane Daly Butz had replied for Eire Og. Both keepers, Kevin Foley for the Rockies and Luke Linehan for Eire Og brought off some outstanding saves in the second half. Eire Og proved that bit stronger in the run in and emerged victorious. David Fitzgerald, Max Hayes, Brian Noonan and Declan O'Herlihy showed some fine skills for the Rockies.

On Friday 16th June the Blackrock and Rocky teams overcame two teams from St.Finbarrs at Church Road in what were closely fought contests played before a large appreciative audience. On Saturday the Blackrock team overcame Bishopstown in a fine contest played at Bishopstown.

Report from Rockies and Blackrock Teams Round 5 Matchs

Blackrock 1 - 1 Douglas Greens 0 - 2 

This was another thriller of a game with the result in doubt right up to the final whistle. Blackrock can thank Jack Linehan who was outstanding in goal and saved them time and time again as the Greens lay seige to the goal in an effort to pick off the winner. David Redmond and Niall Fitzgerald also had great games for this so far undefeated Blackrock team. Andrew Cullinane in the back line, along with Olann Hannigan and Pearse Dorney were outstanding for the Douglas Greens. The huge crowd gave both sides a well deserved ovation at the end of this game.

The Rockies 5 - 1 Douglas Blacks 2 - 2 

Two goals late in the game decided this one. Fiacre Kelleher was brilliant in the Rockies back line aided by Kevin Foley, who brought off some fine saves, as well as Oliver Meade and Evan Mintern. Up front Naoise Crowley pitched in with a hat trick of goals with some excellent ground shots. Mark Dolan cleared ball after ball for the Blacks while in the forwards Eoin O'Sullivan showed some nice skills to get two very good goals.

Our thanks to Noel Sexton of the Douglas Hurling Club for arranging a very enjoyable summer evenings hurling for the almost 80 youngsters who took part.

Report from Rockies and Blackrock Teams Round 4 Matchs

Played at Church Road Friday 26th May 2006.

The Rockies 5 - 4 Bishopstown 2- 3 

After dominating the first half the Rockies led by 3 - 2 to 0 - 1 at half time. However Bishopstown cmae out with all guns blazing in the second half and were only two points behind. Some heroic defending by Fiacre Kelleher at full back kept the "Town" out. However the Rockies got a second wind and added a late 2 - 2 to emerge the winners. Eddie Ryan, Jamie Mulcahy and Alan Maher were outstanding.

Blackrock 1 - 7 Eire Og 1 - 3. 

This game will live long in the memory of those who were priveleged to witness it. Only a goal late in the second half from Seamus Hogan really seperated the sides in the end. Eire Og were ahead 1 - 3 to 0 - 1 at half time however powered by Daniel Meaney, Blackrock fought back. The game featured some spectacular points from David King operating at centre field for the Blackrock side while Eire Og keeper Luke Lenihan and full back Dylan Desmond were outstanding.

Mick Cashman Cup coordinator Jody Crowley was full of praise for the visiting teams players and mentors and wishes to thank Tom O'Sullivan of Bishopstown and John McCarthy of Eire Og. The competition continues through June and is proving to be an outstanding success. It has been decided to invite all eight teams taking part to the final play offs at Church Road on Sunday 24th September next.

Report from Rockies and Blackrock Teams Round 2 and 3 Matchs

The two Blackrock teams had away fixtures at St.Finbarrs and home fixtures at Church Road during the week. The matches continue with home fixtures versus Eire Og and Bishopstown on Friday evening 26th June at 7pm.

Tuesday May 16th Blackrock and Rockies travelled away to play the Barrs and St Finbarrs respectively.

The conditions were perfect and matches were under way at 6:45 p.m. Rockies stared brightly racking up 2-1 to 0-1 by half time. This was due to excellent clearing from Fiacre Kelleher at centreback, strong workrate from Kevin Foley at midfield and perfect finishing by Paddy Lynch who accounted for all the scores. The Barrs came back at the Rockies like a hurricane after the break netting a goal and a point. For a while all play was going for the Barrs but Rockies settled and flashed over four points and one from a free by Paul Tobin. Again Barrs rallied with two goals in quick succession but Rockies held firm and Paddy finished the game with a further goal. Final Score Rockies 3-6, Barrs 3-2

Blackrock won their encounter with St Finbarrs. Blackrock gave a great team performance and were powered at the back by Daniel Meaney supplying David King in midfield scored and created the opportunity for scores such as the wonderful goal from Ben Mc Carthy. The return games are awaited with great interest.

Friday May 19th Church Road was the venue for Blackrock v Douglas Black. Blackrock were solid and denied a very good Douglas Black team victory The final score stood at 2-3 to Blackrock with Douglas Black very very unlucky not to score despite their constant pressure.

Rockies were on the back foot early on against a highly efficient Douglas Green side and had difficulty getting ball past a well organised mid section. Green had two goals and a point on the board before Rockies scored a goal which was to be their only score of the match despite a number of advances on the goal. Douglas Green stood at 4-1 to 1-0 at half time. Rockies re-organised and the second half saw the backs defend well with Ryan and Luke O'Mahony thrilling all in goal and left full back. Douglas Green scored one point in the half bringing the final tally to 1-0 to 4-2 in favour of the visitors.

Report from Rockies and Blackrock Teams Round 1 Match

 The opening home match in this competition took place at Church Road on Friday 12th May last and involved a derby game between the Rockies and Blackrock. As neither side wished to come out second best in this game, a thriller was the result with Blackrock emerging victorious by 3 - 2 to 3 - 1. For Blackrock Alan O'Callaghan and David Redmond were outstanding while Fiacre Kelleher and Paddy Lynch played their hearts out for the Rockies. Our thanks to the almost 50 under 10s who turned up for this Rocky derby.

Mick Cashman Cup 2006

The Mick Cashman Cup is run for the U10 group (born in 1996) and is played in honour of the late Mick Cashman who played for Blackrock, Cork and Munster. His family has made an enormous contribution to hurling in this county.

While this is a competition, the main objective is to develop and encourage the hurling skills of young players while ensuring that the experience is an enjoyable and positive one for all involved.

We hope and expect that all participants will ensure that all their players will be given an opportunity to play in games and that mentors and supporters will encourage fair play, acceptance of referees' decisions, and a concentration on having an enjoyable social occasion at the games for everyone. To that extent the Blackrock Hurling Club will enter two teams to allow for full participation by all our youngsters.

This year the format will be of a league leading to semi finals and a Final.

Each team will play four home games and four away games in the league stage. The top 4 teams based on points and score difference will contest the semi finals. If teams are tied on points and score difference the winner of the tie between those teams will gain the advantage.

It is proposed to run the competition in the months of May and June, breaking for the summer holidays and resuming in September.

The following teams are participating in this year's competition:

Blackrock Rockies St Finbarrs Barrs Eire Og, Douglas Green, Douglas Black

The fixture list follows. Games must be played within nominated weeks by agreement with the teams concerned. 

Week 1 is the first week of May. Finals will be run in September.

The dates for each game should be agreed on and the results forwarded by the home side to Jody Crowley at tel number 087-2214587 e.mail jodycrowley@eircom.net

The home side is responsible for providing a referee for the game preferably an adult in the club not directly involved with the team.

Matches will be of 20 minutes a side played on pitches going from each 20 meter line or by agreement.

Each team must nominate one person who will be responsible for coordinating the programme in a committee with the Blackrock group of coaches to ensure the completion of the competition.

Visit by Crecora.

Crecora Hurling Club from Co Limerick played a series of three friendly games with the Blackrock under 8 and 9 panels at Church Road on Saturday afternoon. The games played in beautiful sunshine were a credit to the youngsters from both clubs and the skill level was of a very high order. Our thanks to Noel Murphy and the boys and girls from Crecora as well as John Cormack from the Blackrock club for arranging the visit
